Today, Los Molcajetes Mexican Food is a family owned and operated restaurant that offers el sabór a Méxco (the real taste of Mexico), and a one of a kind experience to the visitors of Aggieland and to the residents of the Brazos Valley and its surroundings.
It all started twenty years ago when Nadia Flores and Martin Cantero met while working in a Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles, California; he was a cook and she was a waitress. Both were in the search of fulfilling the American dream and for this reason both of them attended school to learn English.
While Martin was working in hotels and restaurants in California (Disneyland), Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York, he supported Nadia for a total of twelve years so she could continue with her education (they were raising three children Vanessa, Kevin and Jasmine). Nadia earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from University of Pennsylvania. The twins, Omar and Yessenia arrived just before Nadia received her degree. Nadia today teaches at the department of Sociology at Texas A&M University.
It was not until after a couple of years of arriving to the Bryan and College Station area that Martin was able to fulfill his dream of opening his own restaurant. Martin’s brothers, Rigoberto, Luis, Alejandro and his sister Lupita later joined to help Martin launch Los Molcajetes.
At Los Molcajetes Martin has enjoyed cooking delicious recipes he learned from his mother Audelia who was born in Guanajuato, Mexico. He has also been influenced by the cooking traditions of the state of Sinaloa (where he was raised), and from his experiences working in kitchens all around the U.S.
Today, Los Molcajetes Mexican Food offers delicious original Mexican food cooked daily using fresh ingredients where every single dish goes through Martin’s close supervision and creativity. In addition, the Mexican traditions and culture can be experienced through the numerous art displays and its friendly warm family atmosphere and great service.
Food and Culture
Los Molcajetes Mexican Food offers a unique Mexican cuisine adventure, but it is also a place where visitors can enjoy and learn about the Mexican culture.
- Its warm and friendly atmosphere provides a unique sense of comfort which portrays the qualities of the Mexican culture.
- All the members of our staff speak English and Spanish, so you can also visit in order to practice your Spanish skills.
- The walls around the dining room are full of colorful art and crafts made by Mexican artisans from the states of Jalisco, Sinaloa and Chiapas, Mexico.
In addition, a majestic mural painted by local artist David William Garrett which also celebrates the Mexican culture covers a wall next to our patio on Texas Avenue; a must see!!!! Other paintings by the same artist can also be found inside the restaurant.
About Vanessa Blue
Vanessa Blue was drawn by David after he saw Vanessa carrying drinks in her signature 3 fingers style.
About The Mural
